alumNI NEWs ] alumNI RETREaT alumNI NEWs The BAC Alumni Retreat took place on Saturday, October 24th at the Crane E state in Ipswich, Ma ssa chusetts . A group of dedicated alumni, spanning the years from the classes of 1969–2009 were joined by BAC Overseers, faculty and administrative sta ff, who ea ch hold a specia l interest in the ongoing initiatives of the BAC Alumni Board. The group was fortunate to have Florida alum Micha el Pa netta , ’84 join the efforts. A s a distanc e alum, Mike’s thoughts reg arding alumni involvement “ac ros s the miles” were especially insightful. The concept of an Alumni Retreat ema nated from the work of the Mentoring Committee, a sta nding committee of the Alumni Board, and furthered by the full support of the Alumni Board. The main retreat objectives were: to bring alumni together to share the activities and initiatives of the Alumni Board and its standing committees for the purpose of tailoring the Board’s work to better serve and engage alumni with the BAC and to create a legacy for future boards by building and s trengthening alumni support while creating a stable connectivity amongst alumni that will remain intact and grow as each succes- sive board comes into ser vice. The standing committee chairs led a lumni a nd guests in brea k-out se ssions to expand the vision on the broad topics of Mentoring, Outreach and New Initiatives. The concept highlights discussed include worldwide mapping and cataloging the expertise of BAC alumni, melding the multi-discipline design community of the BAC in the 21st Century, and developing a featured ‘Forum’ by alumni that will bring community members together. A complete summary of the retreat and its excellent visioning is under development and will be shared with the greater Alumni Association and the extended BAC community. The Alumni Board gives thanks to all who supported and pa rticipated in its first retreat and looks forward to having the event be an annual gathering. Trustees of Reser vation s Genera l Manager for the Crane Estate, Beach & Wildlife Refuge, Peter Pinciaro shared the historical and architectural highlights of the property with the group. It is with gratitude to our own Gabriel Petino ’94 and his wife Na ncy who fa cilitated our gathering in the inspiring environment of the Crane Est ate . Their dedication and commitment to the TTOR ca n be recognized though their volunteer design/build work throughout the property.
